You need to make sure even if stains occur to get rid of them as soon as possible. Stains of wine, food, ink, grease, oil and coffee are the most common in carpets. Here are some home made spot treatment tips on getting rid of these stains from carpets. Have a look at them:

Dirt stains
For cleaning dirt stains from your carpet, you will need two kinds of cleaning solutions. A detergent solution and another vinegar based solution that’s prepared with water. You first need to spray the detergent solution on stain and blot in lightly with dry cloth. You will then need to do the same thing with vinegar based solution as well. If you notice stain even then, repeat detergent spray and the blotting process. Finally, make use of lukewarm water onto that area and allow it to dry. You’ll find it to have been disappeared right then!
Ink stains
If its the ink stains, then rubbing alcohol is the best thing. But make sure you do not pour it directly on the affected part. Dump a towel with alcohol and blot the stain with it. Repeat the process if necessary. Only when you find that there is no more ink, spray the part with lukewarm water and use fresh towel for soaking up the excess liquid.
Pet stains
Sprinkling baking soda on stain and blotting it with detergent solution is a great idea for getting rid of pet stains. However, the liquid needs to be soaked up with dry cloth after about 15 minutes. Then, you should prepare a solution of ½ cup warm water and ½ cup vinegar and blot the pet stain again. Make sure you wait for at least 10 minutes before blotting the excess liquid again. Then, allow the carpet to dry and if needed repeat the process. However, after doing all these things, if you still find that the pet stain didn;t disappear, go for carpet patching.
Red wine stains
The moment the carpet gets affected with red wine, absorb the liquid with clean towels. Then, dribble white wine on the stains. Rinse & repeat the process for at least thrice or four times. Lastly, blot the excess using a clean towel. You will see that it has disappeared.
Food & drink stains
You should first dab detergent on a dry clean cloth and press it on the area that has been stained. Leave it for 15 minutes and soak the excess liquid with dry towel. Then follow the same method using vinegar dipped clean towel. Wait for 15 minutes again and then finally blot the area with lukewarm water. If stain hasn’t disappeared, repeat the entire process again.
Oil & grease stains
The excess needs to be removed with white paper napkin. Sprinkling baking soda or salt on stain and leaving it for two hours then needs to be done. However, then you should vacuum it. Applying a dab of detergent to dry cloth and pressing down on the area firmly is then recommended. Next, follow by soaking the stain using lukewarm water. Allow the stain to dry completely and repeat the detergent process if needed.
